We brought our 10 month old daughter camping for the first time recently. Our first campsite was on the beach, and that was challenging (sand and wind). Camping in the redwoods turned out to be way easier, and Samuel P Taylor was the perfect blend of "getting" away while not being too far from home. The sites are well spaced and there is a lot of variety. The restrooms were some of the cleanest I've ever seen. I would highly recommend this pace for anyone (or any family) looking for a quick weekend getaway.

It's quiet, peaceful, tranquil. You can enjoy easy to moderate hikes or nature walks. There's also history with educational signs along the Old Mill trail. You can see wildlife and creatures that vary throughout the year. There are also picnic areas with tables and benches.

♿️ bathrooms available Drive past the sign for ‘Samuel Taylor P State Park’ and along the way you will see ‘Camp Taylor’. Turn left there to reach the campsite entrance. There is only one loop road so follow the map to find your reserved spot. The area is well spaced, shady and somewhat isolated as well as surrounded by tall redwoods. Both large ground fire rings and smaller standing types are available. We enjoyed our nature walk at a nearby easy trail, Pioneer Tree Trail. Showers are token only for 4 minutes each. Bathrooms were clean- a quick look in videos! We even had wifi connection at the campground. A grocery store within 10-15 min driving distance, is open until 11pm in case you need anything ir just food and drinks. There’s also the Bolinas Ridge Trail 5-10 min drive away with parking along the highway. (we didn’t got off but as in our sight there’s probably lack shade for part of the trail.) Overall we love the cool layout of campsite at Orchid Hills where we stayed for one night, and its proximity to nearby trails. Hammock is not allowed.

This place was great. The cabin host started the heater before we got there. We arrived after dark which was challenging with limited signs. You can’t park next to the cabin so it took a little bit to lug your stuff to the cabin. Also beware older photos show mattresses, there are none. That was hard plywood, so bring something soft to sleep on. We basically used this as a home base to tour areas of Point Reyes which was gorgeous despite the rain. The bathrooms are clean. The cabin was nice and warm with plenty of space and electricity. There were two bunk beds with one having a full size bed at the bottom. Plenty of space for a table (bring your own) and two adults and 3 children to sit comfortably. Will do this one again!
