About This Campsite
Exploring Big Basin Redwoods State Park
Big Basin Redwoods State Park is a serene escape, nestled amidst towering ancient trees. With its rich tree canopy and lush greenery, this park offers a unique glimpse into the beauty of California's redwood forests. Although it is recovering from past fire damage, the revival is evident, with verdant growth reclaiming its rightful space within the park.Important Considerations:
- A number of trails remain open post-restoration, but not all are accessible yet, so plan your visit accordingly.
- Prepare for changing weather; it can be humid and hot, making appropriate clothing essential.
- Ensure your vehicle is fueled sufficiently, as the park's roads are narrow and can become congested.
- Though mobile signals are scarce, downloading offline maps will help avoid navigation issues.
- Parking availability can be an issue on weekends, so advance booking is recommended.
- Entry fees apply, with a $10 charge per vehicle, and note that park passes like the America the Beautiful card aren't accepted here.
- Bring your own water and snacks because there are limited on-site facilities.

Extremely beautiful tree cover all around. The restoration of the park has been so you will find “black giants” with lush green growth on them. The effects of burn can be witnessed in many species around. Limited trails are open at the moment. The park rangers out there are very friendly and knowledgeable. Carry your own water and good. Nothing much available at the Park. Please be mindful about the serenity of the park and congested roads.

Beautiful here. Best to have an appropriate change of clothes this area is much more humid and hot. But Beautiful. Bring water and snacks as this is a long adventure. Be sure to have plenty in your tank. Drive with the windows down but drive caution ⚠️ ✨️ narrow areas abd people speed to the point when they take turns the skid into oncoming traffic and others will drive in the middle taking both lanes I'm glad I chose to go under the speed limit or I would have wrecked due to these exact reasons twice within 20 minutes.

When entering and driving through the forest area we felt we reached but You need to drive all the way till the state park entrance where the park ranger can make your entry. We did not book in advance but were lucky to get the available parking on weekend. I’ll suggest to book the parking in advance if you really want to visit those biggest trees. There are less chances that you’ll get lost as the two lane road shortens and not many other roads to divert you from your main road. There is less directions/road signs available There is no mobile signal so better get your GPS or download offline maps if you are afraid of getting lost. We paid $10 for 1 car entry fee . Since it is a state park they do not accept America the Beautiful card. The trees are reviving from the past fire and are looking great!! Mother tree, Father tree, curly tree etc all are a small walk from the parking. They have small aluminum drinking water cans for sale here. It’s better to get some snacks with you. Mobile Restroom is available. Lot of picture tables available in the woods.

lovely spot, even if so much is still recovering from the fire a few years back. it's actually a very different experience as typically the undergrowth is kinda mellow, as the plants don't get much sunlight, and the floor is covered in redwood pine needles. currently the shrubbery and such are literally enjoying their time in the sun. it's kind of surreal.

We had a really nice 6 mile hike up through the woods. It’s just unfortunate the damage the forest incurred due to a fire, but it’s still worth visiting and the staff is very friendly and helpful. As always… make sure you pack plenty of water and snacks for your hikes.
