We stayed in the camper cabin Vasa. The park is beautiful! Even though we couldn’t go on the trails by the river (they were closed due to construction) we found great places to hike. The staff is another story. We arrive a tad early for our 3pm check in and were told we had to wait until 3 on the dot. So we decided to go hike until 3. In the mean time we checked out the cabin, which was cleaned and empty. So we were waiting for check in because someone was on a power trip. The cabin was nice, but unlike other parks, had no trash bin or ANY furniture other than the table and beds. Not a huge deal, but something to note… bring your own trash bin and porch chairs. Here is my biggest complaint… there are signs in every restroom saying do not put feminine hygiene products down there, be sure to put them in the trash… and get this… it is CRUEL to put them down the drain. Ok, fine… but where would you like ladies to put them??? No trash bin provided in the restroom… in ANY of them. Lastly, make sure you’re in bed early because stump grinding begins at about 8am.

Buggy but easily my new favorite state trail! A little bit of everything - tons of birds, wildlife, variety of plants, and well maintained hiking club trail.

William O'Brien State Park is a pretty good state park overall. The park offers quite a bit of both paved and unpaved walking paths that are of easy difficulty to walk, hike or riding bicycles on. They have a nice quality beach and lake to spend the summers at. The facilities have always been well maintained and are fairly modern. They offer quite a few campground sites that are of good quality. As far as MN state parks go, I'd say this one is about average when it comes to uniqueness and how exciting it is.

Nice park but the trails are very near campsites and roads and houses. Still saw a fox, great gray owl, and numerous deer on just one hike! Easy trails, almost lost my nose though. There was a guy yelling from the woods at a few points as well 🤷
