We felt safe hiking up the hill near the border here. Well maintained trail, but maps could be improved. Great views of ocean and south bay. - there is still flooding in lower area so we didnt explore trails in the valley

This is a great place to camp. Clean, quiet, super helpful/respectful staff. The weather can be extreme. Be prepared. The firewood is a great deal at $5 a bundle. Hike 1 mile West you'll hit the ocean. No condos 7-11 Starbucks. Just OCEAN 🌊 BE SURE TO CHECK THE WATER QUALITY! No swim days are frequent. Thanks for the sewage Mexico! $$ at $24 a night this place is a bargain.

Beautiful campground, everything looks pretty new, restrooms were clean, campsite were spacious, almost semi private with some plants and space dividing each campsite. There is also a fun playground for the kids made all from wood and ropes, my kids loved it. We felt save, park rangers are always there circling around. But there were many many many sand flies, we came back home with at least 50 bites so make sure to take a good brand of repellent because the brand I took didn't do much. We reserved for 2 nights but only spent 1 night, and came back home, the sand flies and the heat were too much for us. Also the water from the shower is too hot, there were only 1 temperature set which was really hot. There's a beach close to the campground but I think it's not safe for swimming because the water quality is not good. I don't think I will come back to this campground. Even though it's a beautiful and very clean campground, the sand flies kills the moment

Interesting park on the US Mexico border. If you’re in the area or close by, it’s worth a trip.

What a magnificent campsite! I had just arrived to the West Coast after a super fast motor on I-8 from Arizona > I-5 South (excellent roads that were still just as good now as when I had last driven them in the late 1970s, when homeported at the 32nd street naval station ). Fortunately, I called to learn that I had until (20:00) to check in—the office is closed afterwards—and received precise/perfect directions: I-5 South to Dairymart exit, continue West on this increasingly rural route, which becomes Monument Road. At the terminus (Border Field Stare Park), I had missed the neon “open” sign in the office, but still had 10 minutes before closing. Good enough! After getting checked in, I found my assigned site, laid my sleep roll under the rear-hitch mounted/my eBikeKit-assisted CruzBike and thoroughly enjoyed a very decent night of rest in this newest of San Diego County parks (open since April2021). Pre-dawn was truly exquisite; the new facilities were, as expected, extremely clean & sanitary, but perhaps more important was the lack of congestion. Bring a new campground, the fire rings are suitably distanced from the next regarding tenting/RVs/horses/yerts. There is an interpretive zone, perfect for youth who can bend/flex/move, which is another way to say it was a bit of an obstacle course for “aged out” me; still enjoyable regardless. The trails (I barely Gimpwalked one) are great and weave through this complex intermixing of nature/flora/fauna & Humans. San Diego County has demonstrated that there can be co-existence without the inherent elimination of species within confined spaces. I highly recommend this fantastic campsite, which, even if full, would still be wonderful because it is regulated by super San Diego County. It certainly has my coveted “iWheel of Approval!”
