Worst camping experience I’ve ever had these last 2 days. We are in the primitive camping section and it’s been AWFUL. There’s been insanely loud construction, chainsaws, dump trucks and so on. Nobody warned us that any of this would happen. Had we known we would’ve chose down here else to go. They started at SEVEN in the morning. It’s currently 10:30 at night and we have some annoyingly loud people on the dock RIGHT across from us, shining lights into our campsite and yelling. We habe kids trying to sleep who are having trouble because they’re so loud. This place has completely gone down hill. It’s unfortunate. Definitely won’t be coming back.

Overall we had a positive experience at this location. With several small improvements, this place could be five stars! First and foremost, there was a stray dog running around the campground the entire time. It was aggressive towards other dogs and made us uneasy with our small children. We tried to report this to the office but they were closed in the evening and did not seem to have an after hours number. A few other things to note: The mini golf only had broken foam golf balls that were never in the bucket. The sand volleyball has a strap/rope for the boundary instead of something solid - easily a tripping hazard and not easy to see. The pool water was HOT - don’t expect a refreshing swim in summer. We stayed in our RV while the families we were with stayed in the cabins. All the picnic tables in the RV park (and pavilion) seemed to be broken or on the verge of breaking. I am of average weight and chose to not even sit on them for fear of falling through the boards. If this park is going to advertise picnic tables as an amenity at each site… it’s time to repair or replace them. The family members in the cabins had an EXTENSIVE check out list which included sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, cleaning the microwave, and even taking inventory of items before departure. Again, an overall positive experience, but people should know what they’re getting when they book here, small upgrades/updates need to be made, and the roaming dog needs to disappear.

Unfortunately, I have to update my review. We spent one month at this park between our house and our fifth wheel to enjoy some time away from home. About two weeks into our trip at this park there was a dog off leash that attempted to attack my daughter. literally came within 3 feet of biting her, It just so happens this dog is owned by one of the employees Jessica. We reported this to the Park manager, Steven and waited about a week to hear something back and they have done absolutely nothing about it! We have not even received a call from Steven after we were told numerous times he would reach out and let us know what the solution would be to this overly aggressive dog that not only chased after my daughter, but we watched this dog chase after numerous people… After this incident Jessica seemed to act as if this was normal behavior and acceptable behavior, and continue to keep her dog off leash. Two weeks after this was reported my wife and I chose to go ahead and remove our camper because we did not feel safe having our daughter here because they continue to let this dog out with no leash, and obviously there will be no repercussions because this park simply does not care for the well-being of children! At this point, we are disgusted with the way management is handling this. They seem to not care whatsoever. Steven, I am sadly disappointed in your management position and how this is being handled. I have called the Signorelli corporation to try and get a hold of somebody and have not yet received a call back as if they are trying to sweep this whole ordeal under the rug. As a corporation, y’all should be ashamed of yourselves for not taking into account the safety of the children in this park as if it is literally going to take a child getting hurt by this dog before y’all take action and by then it will be too late.

Wow. Third time here and this place has gone downhill BAD… from what I hear this place was bought out by a company from the previous owners and they have let this place slowly deteriorate in both service and maintenance. They used to offer food and no longer do so. Pool is disgustingly dirty and very hot, amenities are mostly all broken and lack maintenance, power went out during our stay, and staff seems to not have a sense of urgency to fix these matters. Very sad to see places like this self sabotage and slowly go out of business. Please give this place back to the previous family who owned it or sell it to someone who can at least keep the pool clean. Not a good look.. DO NOT recommend.

What can I say? I am a hotel stay guy. I love hotels, lobbies, annoying elevators and all of it until I went to the Retreat RV & Camping Resort in a cabin. The location is about 45 minutes north of Houston. It's far enough away to feel remote, but you aren't far from a couple of grocery stores, package stores, Kohl's, Target, etc. In other words, if you forgot something or break something, it is not that hard to find a place to replace it. The cabins are relatively new. They are well-appointed. The Sleep sofa is comfortable. The bed is comfortable. Linens and towels are provided. They are not changed out during the stay, so bring pool towels or go gets some (see above). The kitchen has everything you need, including a corkscrew. There is a service for 4 in the 4 person cabin. They do supply a little coffee to get you started, if you forget. They also give you a small amount of soap, body gel, shampoo and conditioner. Having stayed in State Parks and other cabins that were more rustic, this was a nice upgrade. The heat kept it very comfortable when it was about 18 degrees outside. It was freezing, literally, so we didn't get try all of the amenities, but they look nice. I am sure they are busy in the summer. The cabins do back to the road, so there will be road noise. Also, this is not a place where there are lots of trees, so it is semi-private, but not like being in the woods. However, as a base to get to Houston, but not stay in Houston, this is an excellent alternative. I definitely enjoyed the courteous staff, nice touches and quiet. It was a pleasant surprise.
