Gorgeous spot, the drive up from Tucson is magical! You round a bend with rocks and desert all around, then suddenly … boom Pine Forest. Bullfrog tadpoles were all over in Rose Canyon Lake. Found a patch of snow at the top of the mountain in early May. Never thought that would happen in Arizona.

The campsite and lake are always beautiful but are completely spoiled by the rude staff that think that they own the land. We are normal citizens coming out to camp and get away from busy city life, we are very courteous of others, very aware of collecting our trash, very aware of putting out our fires, and for some reason we are always bothered by staff. They drive up in their golf carts and try to micromanage every single little thing we do. We were LITERALLY told that we were not allowed to chop up our own wood because the wood chips left behind were messy and that it doesn’t sound appealing. If these people would just let us enjoy our time it would be so much nicer. The Parker Canyon staff is so much more welcoming and kind. I’d rather be there any day but it’s too far.

Rose Canyon Campground is a lovely getaway into the cool forest. Lovely vegetation and some interesting critters can be found here. Great for a night or two away from the city. It is quite popular so if you're plan to reserve a spot for the weekend do so at least a month in advance. First come first serve spots fill up fast on the weekend too. Due to it's popularity it might be hard to get away from all of humanity, tho most fellow campers are respectful. The facilities are limited (pit toilets and drinking water spigots) but clean and well maintained. The staff here is respectful and courteous. Great spot to camp.

We attended a wedding here this past weekend. The hosts, Shane and Vicki, were very accommodating and friendly. The bathrooms were well maintained. They were selling ice at the little store by the lake, which was a relief. With fire restrictions in place, make sure you bring propane grills (and possibly fire rings). Also bring shade tents, as some sites don’t have a lot. This was a lovely campground experience that we would recommend.

We camped at site 24. It was perfect. The weather was amazing. The lake was great, even though we didn’t catch anything. My only negative was that there were a ton of yellow jackets.
