I would describe this trail as an adult playground for people who are in really good shape, and looking for a challenge. The first part of the trail involves a steady climb where you have to use your hands to rock climb part of the way. There are two caves that give you some shade. When you hit the firstcrest, you’ve only just begun. From there, the trail is less steep, but still difficult and you are totally exposed. The blue dots are your friend, and you should look for them constantly, as it is easy to get off of the trail. Before you get to the first peak, you will meet your first iron chain that is bolted to the rock. The first one is not too bad, but you should still be very careful. Not too far after that you meet your second iron chain. The fall from that chain is certain death, so I decided not to move forward on it. If I did this trail again, I would bring my Via Ferrata rock, climbing kit. I ended up hiking 3 miles and it was extremely difficult. For context, I am an avid hiker and have climbed Half Dome and many other long and difficult hikes.

Nice trail, it starts heavy, and in the middle there are 3 spots with chains, but all of them are doable. I did not made a full trail, as my goal was South Franklin peak, which is the highest spot on that trail. Only problem is that peak is not fully accessible, as there are some gated communication towers.

Hiked 3.7 miles and 2400 ft elevation going from the McKelligon trailhead to the trans mountain highway in 2:30 minutes. Not an easy hike. Very rocky and lots of cacti. You have to do some rock climbing/scrambling at points and climb up chains. The views were amazing though, and there are options for some more extreme rock scrambling where you are on the crest of the mountain with massive drop offs left and right with you on a 3 foot wide path. Do not attempt if you are scared of heights

Amazing view of both East and West El Paso/Santa Teresa, NM. From the top of the running trail/parking area to the top where the towers are and back down is a smidge over four miles. You'll have to climb four sets of vertical walls with chains that are bolted into the rock. You'll pass the "window," which was neat, then eventually you'll make it to the top where you overlook trans mountain and Mammoth Rock.
