Proud Lake State Park is a good spot if you aren't looking to travel too far away from the city and want to camp and/or swim. The beach and swimming area is not that large. They do have kayak rentals though, which is nice. Being that Proud Lake is not that far from the populated suburbs of Detroit, the place does fill up quickly during the warmer months. The camping spots are quite close together as well. Despite this place being so close to the city and suburbs, it is not right off of any major freeway. There are a few back roads that you need to take in order to get to the park. So that is something to keep in mind. The park is also very clean and there are basketball courts right in the campground. Overall, while it's not the best camping or swimming in Michigan, it does the job if you are looking for a relatively close trip from the Detroit area.

Amazing park!! We came and stayed at the group campground and had the best time! The river was beautiful and clean. The vault toilets were some of the best our group has had in a long while. The youth enjoyed the fire ring and pavilion. The amount of room in the sites for running games was perfect! The trails here are also beautiful. The youth found lots of animals, birds, and reptiles.

The trails here are fantastic. I've been on 4 hikes here and keep coming back. So far, it's one of my favorite spots.

We like this spot, great launching point for kayaking and fun to see kids splashing around in the water, and hikers marching by.

Absolutely gorgeous, and lots of dogs on the trail today. Colors are at their peak, and there's no better place to see them than Proud lake. Our dogs get a nice walk that tires them out. Breathtaking views!
