Access to the beach is illegally blocked by a gate which can only be opened via key card. File your lawsuits and petitions... USACE will exclude key biscayne from projects to save it from flooding & sea level rise if access is not granted for all.

Great access to the beach, which is calmer than Atlantic beaches to the north, with abundant shower facilities and picnic grounds. The reason I give it just one star is that park access is limited to one locked gate and you need a village of Key Biscayne access card to open the gate. The card is available only to residents of the village. During busy weekend hours, there is a lot of traffic thru the gate and as a practical matter, access is pretty easy at those times, though there is a sign there so technically its trespass. If you arrive early or on weekdays you may have trouble getting into the park. Two federal courts, one in Cal. and one in NY state, have ruled that limiting municipal park access to municipal residents is unconstitutional. I wrote to the Village and informed them of this. I did not receive a reply. The only other South Florida beach town that I know does this is Golden Beach. I suppose it's not a surprise that these arguably 2 wealthiest beach communities in South Florida are the only ones who will not share their municipal beaches with out-of-towners.

Many people say “open to the public” about this location. But you do need a key card to access this private area. Unless coming from the beach.
