Visitor Insights
Guests at Mckinney Falls State Park have shared varied experiences. Many appreciate the beautiful and tranquil environment perfect for family outings or a peaceful walk with their pets. It's quite popular among the local runners too. However, plan your visit early in the day to enjoy the majestic solitude before it becomes busy.
While the campground provides private and quiet sites with well-maintained amenities like bathrooms and showers, some guests have noted occasional issues with site maintenance, such as untrimmed grass and litter. With numerous trails to explore, be advised that wildlife, such as snakes, can be present but not typically problematic. For those interested in fishing, it might not be the best spot as the availability is limited to sunfish.
Tips and Considerations
- Arrive early for a peaceful experience before crowds gather.
- Consider non-peak visiting days to avoid busier times.
- Be prepared for unexpected wildlife sightings and practice caution.
- Check fishing conditions if that is a planned activity.

First time to stay here and quite frankly disappointed. We reserved our stay months ago and when we arrived our site wasn't mowed and trash all around. Tall grass everywhere. Our poor little dog was covered all in burrs wedged between paws and not to mention undercarriage. But right across was the park host and there site was immaculate.

Beautiful park very close to Austin. Very popular either families, dog owners and runners. I was there when it opened on a Saturday and you can enjoy it in solitude for about 2-3hrs before the crowds start arriving. Still a great experience. Only reason for 4 stars is it’s not a very good place to fish unless you’re fishing for sunfish. Would highly recommend for a day with friends/family for a picnic.

Absolutely wonderful park! I highly recommend. Very private and quiet sites. Nice bathrooms and showers. So many trails to wander on. Just keep any eye out for snakes as they are all around but weren’t a problem.

Very cheap and quiet. They write on the map that they are running on ice but that is definitely NOT the case!
