While it promises an invigorating experience in the heart of nature, visitors have noted both positive and negative experiences worth considering before planning your stay.

Camping Tips and Considerations

  • Natural Beauty: The campground is noted for its beautiful locations, particularly sites near the water which offer stunning views and opportunities to observe local wildlife such as deer and squirrels.
  • Facilities: While the campsite hosts spacious sites that are generally well-regarded, there are opportunities for improvement in the amenities. Some reviews suggest that the restrooms and showers could use upgrades, although the shower does provide hot water which is a plus.
  • Staff and Management: Experiences with staff vary; some visitors have encountered issues with communication and customer service. It's advisable to be clear on rules and check-out times to ensure a smooth visit.
  • Noise Levels: The campsite is mostly quiet with occasional noise from boats and wildlife. Be prepared for the possibility of some disturbances, including music from nearby boats or other campers' activities.
  • Recreational Activities: The area is popular for swimming and floating, although the beach might need a bit of maintenance depending on water levels. Hiking and observing the vibrant local wildlife can add to the camping experience.

Overall Thoughts

IF I COULD GIVE ZERO STARS THEN I WOULD!! I've never been treated like this anywhere! The woman at the front was beyond rude and extremely demeaning! I will NEVER EVER go back there again. After getting the park ranger called on us for not being gone right at check out time then we have bounced to two other campgrounds today only to be told we cannot stay there and a refund will come in a few days. They've taken every dime I had to my name and now I have nowhere to go and absolutely no money to invest into a hotel room or anything. They need to find some empathy. And also last night a branch fell into the top of our tent and made it buckle in the middle and we ended up sitting in about 4 inches of water that had gathered on our pad. All of our stuff is ruined and all clothes are soaking wet and we didn't even get the decency to be allowed to ring our stuff out or drain the water from our tent. Now our car is soaked with water also. This review is not about other Bartow county park and rec employees at other campgrounds. THEY'RE TERRIFIC AND SUPER SWEET! This is only for the McKinney employees!!

Beautiful campsites near or on the water. Lots of wildlife that are used to human interaction. Campground is fairly clean although lots of trash in the water away from the swimming area. Lots of boat traffic throughout the day along with a lot of hikers and families walking pets. Great sunsets. Was quiet most of the time although some boaters blast music while passing by.

McKinney Campground is in a great location. The campground seems to have a lot of rules that they reiterate when checking in but the hosts and park rangers are very nice! The showers/restrooms NEED a major upgrade but I will say, the water in the shower is very hot! Overall, the campground was fairly quiet during our stay except for the small baby that was crying around 6am!

Nice place, but the people running it are rude idiots! My wife has COPD and I have an injured knee. Yet the guy in the booth refused to help us at the booth, instead making us walk back and forth from the parking area. Even after showing him our handicap pass. He the told us that we could extend our stay if the hurricane prevented us from driving home to Florida. When we did so the following morning they told us we had to pack up and move one site! This is ridiculous! Never again!!

Not on water, pretty level, and got backed in the first try. Site spaces, good view. Deer and squirrel abundance. Nice time. Beach could use a raking. In defense, water was low. Still good swimming and floating.
