About This Campsite
Louisville State Recreation Area
The Louisville State Recreation Area is a charming state park located in Nebraska, perfect for those seeking a blend of leisure and adventure. With access to a beautiful lake and river, visitors can indulge in a variety of water activities like kayaking and tubing. The park also features an inflatable adventure park for children, making it an exciting destination for families.
Highlights & Tips
- Beautiful Beach: The beach is noted for its appealing ambiance, offering shallow water that's safe for small kids. However, it can get crowded during the weekends.
- Campsite Layout: The campsites are reported to be quite close, which might not suit those seeking more solitude. Sites 1-10 and those along the back (sites in the 200s) offer more space but are walk-up only.
- Shower Facilities: Prepare to bring change as shower usage costs $1 for 3 minutes. Many have found this inconvenient, so planning ahead is necessary.
- Trains: The park is near train tracks, and noise may disturb light sleepers, particularly at night. Ear plugs are recommended.
- On-Site Amenities: A small store is available for necessities, although it can be pricey. Live music events also occur on some nights, adding a layer of entertainment.
- Camping Facilities: Offers electrical hookups and basic tent sites, but full hook-up sites are limited and tend to book up fast.
Overall Thoughts
Louisville State Recreation Area is a fantastic getaway, particularly for families and groups looking to enjoy some recreational activities and natural beauty. While the park has its set of minor inconveniences, such as the noise from nearby trains and the need for exact change for some facilities, its picturesque setting and range of activities make it a notable spot to relax and explore. With a bit of planning, visitors can have a memorable experience here. Always check current conditions and policies ahead of your visit to ensure a smooth experience.

The beach is really nice. The camping spots feel a bit close, but I'm used to backwoods camping. You need change to pay for a shower, this especially stinks because most people don't carry cash.

The lake/beach area is great for small kids as it is shallow pretty far out. There is a nice little store, somewhat expensive depending on what you need. The water playground is around $15 or $18 for 90 mins. Not worth it imo. The campsites are VERY close together. There are a couple areas where there is more space: 1-10, along the back (200s by train). These are walk up sites and don't show online. The tent sites were pretty nice looking, great for camping with a large group. There are only 6 full hook up sites, all online and always booked. Dump/fill station only has 2 stalls, expect a wait on Fridays and Sundays. Showers cost $1 for 3 mins, ridiculous. Especially when you're forced to be water conscious with no water hook up. There are trains, LOTS of trains coming by esp at night. Some sites are literally 6-10 ft from the tracks. If you are a light sleeper, this will wake you and shake/rumble tent/RV. Overall it is ok during the week, too crowded on the weekends and the kids on staff are not very helpful/don't give accurate info - talk to an adult. Pictures are of the "larger" sites.

Paid for 7 nights, left after 1 night. Bring ear plugs if you want to sleep! Prepare yourself for rude groundskeeper!! The park itself is great. Clean, spacious, and we walked just over 2 miles around the park itself. Check-in staff were friendly, but they didn't provide clear instructions --- or the groundskeeper didn't agree with what they stated. We were a walkup reservation. I paid for 2 vehicles for state passes, then wanted to stay for 7 nights. We checked in at the office around 2:15pm, we were told where the water was and advised to fill up, find a spot and when ready come back and pay. They said they're there until 5pm, so I have plenty of time. We filled up, found our spot (41) and pulled the motorhome into it. I then was getting into the vehicle to drive back to the office when the groundskeeper decided it was a great time to reprimand me for parking in a space I had not paid for. When I informed him that the front staff said to pick a spot and return to them to make payment, he decided to argue, and raise his voice to tell me I'm wrong, they didn't say that, and that I need to go to the office now, or leave the park. When I went to the front office and told them what happened, they said that "he's just a grumpy old man, it happens all the time" - I told them that they needed better guidance either for visitors or for the groundskeeper. If I'm not supposed to go fill up and find a spot and then pay, then I should not be given that info. I should be told, find a spot and come back before parking. The grounds keeper later came over to tell me I left a nozzle at the filling station and that it was not a place to just leave things. The nozzle was not mine. The grounds keeper really did put a sour taste in our mouths. We stayed one night and heard trains all night (3 crossings within a few hundred yards), so by morning we packed up and headed to Mahoney State Park (about 8 miles away) and were very happy.

Louisville, NE has an awesome state park. It has great river access with a tubing and kayak outfitter. There is also an inflatable adventure park for kids in the middle of one of the lakes, and live music some nights! Plenty of spots with electrical hookups and also many basic tent sites. We love Louisville!

my favorite place in the summer! beach, lake, with a little sand, lots of picnic tables. family, friends, dogs. It's very relaxing, cold water. to cool off is great! It's very crowded until 5pm! But after this time it gets better, more peaceful, empty, you can enjoy it more!
