Great family camp site spaces are roomy and clean. There is a table and fire pit in each camp space. Most have trees for shade and provide some privacy. There are bathrooms and paid showers. You have to get tokens for the showers and it’s only by one spot not all of them. There is a little store to buy food items and other necessities along with gifts for your trip. The beach is a 15 or less min walk and there is area for dogs too! Also a parking lot for any extra or large cars.

We had a great time camping at Leo Carrillo State Park Campground. The campground is conveniently located close to Los Angeles and the ocean. Although it was affected by recent storms, the beach is still accessible, albeit through a rocky path from the campground. This turned out to be quite an enjoyable experience. The campground is dog-friendly and the staff is visible and attentive. The bathrooms are cleaned daily, and the campground store is well-stocked with snacks, ice cream, bread, and other essentials. They also sell firewood for around $10, including tax. At night, you can fall asleep to the soothing sounds of frogs from the nearby river, and wake up to the chirping of birds in the morning. The campground's atmosphere reminds me of the 100-acre woods in Winnie the Pooh, with its big trees perfect for climbing, hanging a hammock, or just swinging. The camp lots are very generous. Some are along the river that flows through to the ocean. The others face the beautiful mountains. It is gorgeous. Although I could see my neighbors, we had the privacy we needed. There are multiple access points to water for washing dishes or clothes. And access to electricity at at least 50 lots. There are also accessible nature trails to explore. Cell service is available near the entrance, but if you're staying past the store, you'll be unplugged for the duration of your stay. This could be a good thing! Cold showers are free but if you want hot water, use the token machine. Its basically one dollar for two tokens and each token is a 2-minute hot shower. It takes a while for the hot water to arrive. The machine also takes 5s and maybe 10 dollar bills. We definitely will visit again. :)

The reaaon why I rate it 1 star is because of the noise at this campground. This campground (as many close to L.A.) attract loud crowds that are there to party. In our case we had a group that booked five campsites and then congregated at the campsite next to us and partied all night. The camphost asked them to be quiet around 11pm. Around 2 am (after they had woken up my kids) I did talk to them but it just turned into an argument with 20 or so drunk people. I decided then to just leave the campground. A 3 day beach camping trip my kids looked forward to completely ruined due to the inability to get any sleep there. I don't know what quiet hours are for if they are not enforced. And it's not just a one time thing, this is an ongoing issue with campgrounds close to LA. Also, bathrooms are few and far between. As a result I noticed that one campsite I looked at heavily smelled like pee. Most sites are very spacious and shady though. A beautiful beach is nearby and the northern stretch is dog friendly. If it just wasn't for the noise at this campground I would go back and had rated differently.

The beach was the highlight of our stay, the ants and Rats have taken over the campground, we had a coyotes run through the camp site, we were sitting around the fire and 20 feet away there it was staring back at us. Generator rules are only allowed from 10 am until 8 pm but only apply to certain people apparently we were not one of those though they did allow us to finish what we were doing, and the same for the park ranger they told me to move my truck to the overflow as it was about a foot beyond the site or they would give me a ticket, but other were allowed to park in the road making it difficult to maneuver around them the bathrooms were clean but no soaps so bring your own to wash your hands, the park closes the entrance at 10 pm you can’t get back in until the next morning

Such a fun place to camp. We had never been there before last week. The beach is absolutely spectacular. You'll love the wide span of sand. The sea caves just to the north are great to explore on a low tide. There are plenty of trails to walk as well. The campground is really big. The eastern part of the campground toward the canyon has little to no cellphone service. The western part of the campground does have service. The campsites are relatively large, with the standard fire pit and picnic table. The pads, as other reviewers have noted, are pretty short. Make sure to check that out ahead of time before you reserve so that you can fit your trailer. We look forward to going back again real soon.
