We stayed here for one night at the end of August on a road trip. The sites offered little to no privacy and very little shade which was unfortunate since it was a heat wave. Some of the tent sites had nice flat pads but ours was on a slight slope. Where this campground gains points was the bathrooms, which were spacious, private and clean. Would be fine for a short stay but maybe not in the hottest parts of summer.

We camped at the Group Camping Sites - which were lovely - surrounded by trees, had a nice little bridge going from one part of our campsite to another area back in the woods. It had one fire ring, two picnic tables, lots of flat ground able to hold multiple (we had four tents, but we could have easily situated 6-7) plus the two parked vans.

The camp site location was great, being near the water park on the lake, proximity to hiking / bike trails, and sports facilities. The facilities by the campsite were also better than expected (individual shower + bathroom combos, sinks for washing dishes, water fountains, and both potable and non-potable water spigots). But the arrangement of campsites in the middle of the camp ground puts you within 5 feet of other campers, with no trees or anything for privacy. So when the people across from us decided to show up at 10:30pm (after quiet hours), it was extremely difficult to fall asleep even though all they were doing was putting up a tent and starting a fire. Next time we will get a spot in the perimeter of the campground to avoid campers with poor planning capabilities.

Best deal in the DMV! Decent checkin process, respectful neighbors, and a solid set of amenities. Fairfax allows what some folks would call ‘junky’ setups…if you can only stand walking around model year new Prevost and Newmars, this won’t be your spot. Fairfax County: fix the reservation website!!!!

We have been RV camping since 2001, and this is the only place that charges to move reservation date. After talking about moving the date, the lady on the phone said that I would have to lose one paid night and pay additional fees for moving the date within one month of reservation. She was rude. The manager charged me the fee for moving the reservation date and didn't tell me. He just said $40 for the weekend rate. He didn't tell me $15 for weekend and $25 for moving date. It's going to be the last time that we camp here where the price, policies, the campground, facilities and people are not worth the money spent. Go to Travel Camp where the full hookup sites are concrete padded, near the beautiful lake to fish, archery, bowling, Walmart, no charge for change of reservation, polite staff, laundry house, nice showers. It's at Fort Belvoir.
