Fantastic campground for kids. Several playgrounds, pool, well kept bathhouses, stocked general store and relatively flat for bicycles. We were one of the few tent campers in the main loops. No reservations aloud at the primitive sites. Loop A and C work best for us, placing our tent further away from the camper/RVs and under the large shade trees. Easy bike access to the pond/arenas/museums/visitor center via the Electric Primitive Campground and connecting Greenway beyond. About ten minute bike ride with our six & eight year old. Don't forget to purchase your discounted KY Horse Park tickets at the camp general store prior to venturing out.

Overall, this is a nice campground with lots of shade and comfortably spacious sites. Bathroom/showers well maintained. Water pressure in showers extremely high, but water nice and hot. With rain, some sites can get muddy especially at the corners of campsite entrances. This is a big event location, so beware of weekends filling up fast. One very important point, many of the sites are on a severe incline, most of these were in the inner loops. And with lots of trees come low hanging branches. If you have a big rig, I suggest you get a street view of the park and look at the sites to avoid those tree branches. For those 2 reasons, I leave 4 stars instead of 5. We were on site A6(photo included) for which I was grateful after seeing many of the other sites. Easy access from the interstate and it is a convenient location to explore the area, Georgetown, Frankfort and Lexington. And of course, go to the horse park, well worth it even if you are not a horse person.

My wife and I stayed here for two nights (8-10 August, 2024) in our 18' long travel trailer. The campground is YUGE (over 200 campsites) and is well laid out like a pair of human kidneys and designed to maximize land space. I'm surprised more private RV parks have not copied this very efficient land use design. The RV camp sites all have 20, 30, & 50 amp power outlets and water hookups, and hard asphalt parking pads that are nice and level. There are two large shower houses with laundries, one for each section (kidney) of the park. During our visit, the campground was about 95% occupied, and it seems to stay very busy all year round due to the Kentucky Horse Park and Horse Museum, which is immediately adjacent. Apparently the next door horse park is always hosting some kind of equestrian or rodeo event all year round. The only issue / problem we had while staying here was with the showers and laundry. There were several toilets and sinks that got clogged up in both the ladies and mens rooms, and on the first night we were there, the hot water was out. Additionally, we had to do two loads of laundry while staying there, and only 3 out of the 4 washers and driers were working. It took us 4-5 hours just to do those two loads because there was a wait for the machines. Additionally, there was no folding table in the laundry. Besides those few little gripes, everything else about this place was GREAT. It's very close to I-75 and only about 10 miles NW of historic downtown Lexington, and its sits right in the heart of Kentucky's beautiful bluegrass horse farm country, where there are numerous thoroughbred breeding farms and training facilities all within a 10-15 mile radius. We will definitely stay here again if we ever visit Lexington again.

Very nice park. Spaces are deep but a little narrow. Plenty of space between spots so you don't feel on top of your neighbor. Great camp store and laundry facilities.

We could nitpick a few things but the benefits out way all the small stuff like narrow pavement on the parking pads, the check-in needs a better flow to the parking area. We even went to our site and found someone already in it and I’m rating it 5 stars. That incident was as much the other campers fault as the check in persons fault. The last name is similar but it is site specific so how did the other camper not notice the wrong site location and the name being wrong on the tag that they placed on the pole? Anyway, it worked out fine. The Horse Park is a must for all horse enthusiasts and the bike path is also wonderful. We rode into town to eat and see the sites like the Mary Todd Lincoln house and the oldest fire station in the state.
