This is a great campground. We rolled in on a Thursday evening, hoping we were there early enough to snag a spot, since it's all first-come, first-served. There were quite a few to pick from and we ended up with a great spot. By Friday night, there was only a few spots left. The good: flush toilets! We heard owls every night. Also, they have astronomy presentations up at Hurricane Ridge, which is cool. The bad: no showers and the bathrooms in A-Loop were closed for renovation. Also, the fire ban sucked.

Now Monday in late September, there are many sites available. All sites are first come first serve. It is in the middle of a dense forest area. Burn ban is not in effect here. This is a very enjoyable place. Most sites are small to park two cars. There are several pull through sites for RVs. The Heart's of Forest Trail is off the Loop E. It is 2.1 miles each way through a very nice forest and relatively flat. Dogs are allowed in campgrounds but not in the trails. Tmobile reception is good.

We had a pull through spot. This campground is better for tent camping. Lot of slanted camp spots if using a camper or trailer...and a small teailer...less than 19 ft. Awesome to go up to Hurricane Ridge.

Camper Beware! You may be not be allowed to camp at the spot that you reserved and purchased and was available at the time of doing so! True story follows: I showed up at the campground, found a suitable spot, went to the registration area, saw that my particular spot is not reserved (there are unfortunately no reserved/available labels at the camping spots) for any future days, paid for 4 nights, and inserted a part of the registration paper with all this information (dates included) like you're supposed to for everyone to see behind a glass display in a section that represents my camping spot. I sleep in my truck and during days I drive and explore the area. Translation: I don't leave tents/chairs...or anything else behind...3 days/nights went predominantly drama free, though I have already witnessed some confusion about whether different spots are available or not around me. Come the last day, I come tired after an all day hike to find my spot occupied. Talked to the people there but that didn't help. A bit later I talked to the camp host (Sid Smith I believe), who despite the fact that my spot was reserved several days previously and paid for, didn't support me, instead saying I should have left something behind, like a water bottle or towel to indicate that the spot is not free! Let that sink in, despite the registration area clearly showing what's reserved/paid for or not, supposedly according to this moron (sorry, couldn't help myself) you need leave something behind, never mind the fact that theft happens all the time (as additionally confirmed by a long term camper lady there) and all anyone has to do is simply say they didn't see anything in your spot and dispose of the item you left behind. Or myriad of other scenarios can happen...leaving you without recourse. When I asked to see where such "rule" is mentioned, Sid couldn't provide anything. It's such a ridiculous scenario, i really felt like a character in a Kafka book. So I talked to the lady at the Park Entrance and she couldn't believe what's actually happening. Park ranger was called in with his assistant whom I explained the whole story, and who, again, has never heard of such "rule"...confident I will be able to finally go to my spot and go to sleep before driving for hours the next day, I anxiously waited for the Ranger's return. To my surprise, he was reluctant to "relocate" the squatters, and proceeded to see if another spot may be available somewhere else... I was super tired and eager to leave this mess behind and move on with my life, not getting any help along the way. Let's just say, the spot I was awarded was horrible, with lights on and a lot of car/foot traffic and I hardly got any sleep that night. After the trip, I was able to finally reach a manager of the park who made things right, however, any future campers, learn from my situation and exercise caution at this place, because you quickly might find yourself at the predicament like I did. I just hope one day they will pull this crap on some lawyer and learn once and for all.

This was by far the best campground I have ever stayed out. We came here after ditching Fairholme campground because it was too noisy. We showed up at 11am on a Friday and half of E loop was empty. We stay in site 91 which is nicely tucked at the end of the loop away from the road and other campsites. The site itself has excellent privacy from other sites around. The loop was 25%-50% and we felt like we were alone. It was so quiet we could sleep without the noise machine we needed at Hoh and Mora campgrounds. You really feel like you're in the trees. You are far from the restroom which is shared with C loop. Be aware that there were a ton of mosquitoes so bring bug spray or a candle. Another pro is you are 20 minutes from Hurricane Ridge and 25 minutes from Hurricane Hill. Right now the road to Hurricane Ridge is limiting the amount of cars up the top. However if you stay at the campground you get to go up ever after the road is closed to everyone else. You are also 15 minutes from Port Angeles if you run out of supplies. Honestly would recommend 100000%
