A great starting point for a short and simple Kayaking event ending at the Howe Ave. river access point. People were friendly, parking areas were safe, the river was a comfortable temperature, clear and flowed at a leisurely pace. It wasn't crowded at all though albeit it was a Tuesday midday. Weather was a perfect September day with a cool gentle breeze. We heard the fish were biting. You will see the occasional homeless tent or memorial where someone may have drowned so heads-up on that and life preservers on. Plenty of bike riders and joggers on the trails. Small voluntary fee to park. Plenty of room if towing a trailer. Cheers!

A beautiful spot by the river. Usually fairly quiet, the river gives a nice background noise to read a book with. Or, simply a place to rock hunt if you like to do that. Water is cold and good for soaking feet in. You'll see different types of fish, crawdads, all sorts of things. Even found a turtle once! All around lovely spot.

Beautiful location on American River. Gorgeous sunsets. People fishing. Great view east to Sierra. Great Blue Herons and Snowy Egets love this spot. Parking w/permit. Beautiful sunset walking my dog Kenai from Larchmont Community Park toward the Gristmill. Lovely views of the river and Kenai jumped into the high river and got a good soak.

Love Gristmill. Just moved to the area recently and this is so close to our house. The ranger at the evenings that closes up the gates is rude and harsh though. Watch out.

Lovely and easy river access with a great gravel/dirt boat ramp, and a walking path to free parking.
