We had a great weekend tent camping with our little dog. We had a tent only site that gave us enough privacy and quiet from larger trailers. Be prepared that every morning around 8am, the national anthem is played on the nearby military base :-) The walk from the campsites to the beach is great and so accessible! At night you see a lot of little crabs!

Our dates to camp would be during a time of rain and thunderstorms after an extended heatwave and drought. Though it looked like we were going to have a potential washout experience, it turned out that every day we were able to be out and about either at the bay, the ocean, or, hiking a trail. And not only so, we, also, had sunshine! We did get thunderstorms, rain, and showers, but, we were able to still enjoy ourselves thanks to the sufficient intervals without such and to also having a campsite (42) which was predominantly dry. The visitor center stays open to midnight and was a pleasant place to get on wifi, recharge devices, and sit either outside on the patio which has an overhang, or, inside which has comfortable seating and nicely decorated. We had planned on eating at the Cafe during our stay, but, their freezer went down and they lost all the food which was inside. First Landing State Park is conveniently located to many food options, so, we had plenty of choices for food. Every time we come to First Landing State Park the weather makes the bay a new experience. This trip, seaweed. I had never seen so much seaweed. We went to Virginia Beach and 37th Street to 22nd Street had a no swim/wading sign posted due to high bacteria levels in the water. We were able to get in the ocean beyond the restricted area. The ocean is nice and it was enjoyed, but, the bay is more relaxing if you prefer not to withstand stronger wave action. On one day, when the weather broke from rain showers, I went up to walk the bay shore and it was like walking on a primitive, unpopulated beach. There was only a very few people on the whole beach. I had a very relaxing walk. First Landing State Park is one of my favorite Virginia State Parks.

Great camp ground with good amenities. It's close to the city yet isolated with less traffic. Amenities include pathways to the beach, restrooms, showers, and EV chargers. There are 2 Tesla and 1 CCS level 2 chargers at the entrance that are free of charge. Beach is walkable from the camp ground. Restrooms and showers are regularly cleaned by the staff.

Stayed at site 154 (water & electric), just enough room for a rig that’s about 35’ and below & you will have to disconnect your towing vehicle, but there was plenty of room to park within the site. Power and water pressure were stable. The site was a little unleveled (rear down). Access to the beach and a bathhouse were both close. Bathhouse was clean with plenty of hot water too. Didn’t like that the fire pit and picnic table were separated verses right next to the where you set up, but not too bad. Neighbors were very quiet and the miles of beach was open to the whole whooping 8 other people that were there, but this time of year and being a non weekend, is always best if you want peace and seek that slower tempo. Didn’t hike the trails this time, but they are long enough to get a good hike in if you want. And lastly Verizon was about half strength, so still could stream short videos, make video, and normal calls with no issues.

One of my favorite campgrounds I've ever been to, and I camp a lot. Our site was absolutely perfect with so many beautiful trees to hang up hammocks, and only a minute walk to the bathroom/shower. Staff was very friendly, we arrived very late at night & they were still there to check us in, &they gave us a little bit of extra time to get ready for checkout. Overall 10/10 experience, I'd recommend this park to all my friends. I wish I got to stay longer, I live 7 hours away but I cant wait to camp here again someday!
