Visitor Experience and Tips

  • Rates: Affordable, with nightly rates at $25 from October to March and $30 from April to September.
  • Nature at its finest: Expect a site "left to nature," providing a true backwoods atmosphere.
  • Size Considerations: Larger rigs may face challenges due to tight spaces and low-hanging trees.
  • Amenities: The bathhouse is appreciated for cleanliness, and the campground offers free laundry services.
  • Bases amenities: It is recommended to bring flashlights and lanterns as the site becomes quite dark at night under the tree canopy.
  • Advance planning: With only 18 sites available, it's advised to call ahead, especially during busy times like Memorial Day.

Important Considerations

  • Some maintenance may be required upon arrival due to natural debris accumulation, so preparation for some on-site cleanup might be necessary.
  • Navigation to the site can be tricky; improved signage or clearer directions are suggested.
  • The bathhouse has a security code that changes daily, which some campers find inconvenient.

A glass half full, half empty issue. How far back in history do have to go when campers and trailers where relatively small. That's when this Fam Camp was created. Pretty much left to nature. Each time we come I need to do work on the site. One time the site, like most, was cut into an embankment. Much erosion made it hard to move around in back of our trailer. Did some shoveling. This time was similar. The grills have pads of stepping stones. This one was totally obscured by dirt and a mound of pine cones, pine needles, boken branches & twigs. Had to clear it all away lest an ember start a conflagration. Biggest issue are the trees. Left to grow over time they make it often very difficult to maneuver a rig into a site. Had a big "Grand Design" come in this week and it lost an encounter with a tree. Rec staff have tied red "danger" tape around many trees. Not much help there. BUT it is a back in the woods experience, in the heart of Atlanta. The main cross base roadway is on the north side but traffic is quiet. And the BX is across the road. Never seen more than a few cars in the lot. Bathhouse is nice. With free laundry. Bring flaslights and lanterns because there are no lights. Under the tree canopy it gets really dark at night. Only 18 sites, yet over Memorial Day weekend there were open slots. Plan ahead. Call ahead. For us it is the more than half full variety.

Only $25 per night. Close to many things. Parks, restaurants, shops and more. My only complaint is that they change the bathhouse code daily. I don't understand why. It's a secure military base. Who's out there waiting to break into the bathrooms??? Ridiculous!

I was assigned site 12 and when I arrived someone else had parked in it. When I went to the office the lady was not very friendly. When I asked her a question she pointed me to Terry. Terry was very helpful, like he really liked his job. I would give Terry 5 stars. The directions I received were vague and the signage to the office could have been better.

Update. With new management, prices have gone up from $16/night to $25/night from Oct.-Mar. and $30/night from Apr.- Sept. with no new amenities. With New Management, its back to being a campground again. No more permanent residents, sites are now well marked. The park is quiet and roads are paved. Bathhouse is old but clean with free washers and dryers.

Spaces are tight for big rig back in, but can accommodate. There is no dumping at site and access to the ONE pull through dump site is impossible for long rigs (36ft... 5th wheel) with the egress so sloped up, we'd ground out the rear or mid section if we tried. They could do better. Streets were quickly cleaned of wind debris. Quiet area.
