Bear Mountain State Park is "short" train ride away from New York City and I highly suggest making a visit if you're ever in the area. Bear Mountain is an absolutely lovely park. There are so many activities for the anyone visiting. There's a playground, a pool, an inn where you can enjoy a glass of wine. And then there are the trails. I'm not the biggest hiker, but there are a variety of trails for you to choose from. I do suggest checking the website before visiting. Things do change based on the weather and the ground moving. During our visit, the trail we wanted to hike was not open. We found another, but just know things happen. Overall, a park to visit for sure.

There was only 3 trails open so we chose the 947 steps because using my hands to climb up seemed a bit too extreme for our experience. It took us double the time the park attended advised us so we were in for a big surprise. Still, we felt accomplished and thankfully got back down before dark. I didn't want to walk another step after that for at least 3 days. Hopefully, some of their other trails will be open before the fall ends, and they can give better advice and direction. It was a beautiful park, lots of families and great if you're looking for a challenging hike.

Made my first visit here and it was such a great experience. There’s so much to do with the family or just you and your partner. For all who are curious, yes you can BBQ! There’s plenty of space for that with seating. The lake is definitely a must try, paddle boating was so much fun😃. There is a zoo and many trails. I my self still haven’t explored it all.

We could not hike the mountain trails the Sunday we went but the buildings, area, and Hessian Lake were very pretty. It was very crowded but people seemed to have a lot of fun. The pool was huge and people seemed enjoy it, as well. We went to the zoo which was so-so. A number is animals were not there. Education about the plants and some history was well marked on signs. Around the lake and in the zoo the paths were paved. I’d like to visit again maybe on a week day in hopes it wouldn’t be as crowded and we would definitely plan on a little hiking. Trails are marked as hard for the most part but I figure we could do a little part of them. Also, after we got home we read that we could have driven up to the top of Bear Mountain! I’d like to have looked down the park from the top. One major complaint is the 4-5 bathrooms we went in were filthy, and this was at 11 am. There was also a fair amount of garbage along the pathway in places. We did enjoy being there and would recommend it.

I hiked the full mountain and bake down it was awesome The Views are crazy. I would not recommend. It for a beginner And it takes about 3 hours with stop,s At. The top there's barnacles for 25 cents.You can see new york city and a lot more
