I recently stayed at Anthony Chabot Family Campground during a hot June weekend and had a mixed experience. The scenery is beautiful, and the staff is friendly and helpful. However, the insect situation is overwhelming. Waking up to find my tent covered in over 30 insects was quite scary. Despite wearing long pants and a shirt, I still ended up with multiple insect bites on my ankle, and as someone allergic to insect bites, this was a significant issue for me. Additionally, the campsite had a lot of dry soil around the fire pit and in the camping area, which resulted in our sneakers being covered in dust. It took several washes to get them clean. Another downside was the noise. At night, the sounds of airplanes and trains were quite loud and disruptive. If you're sensitive to insects or noise, I would not recommend this campground for a peaceful camping experience. I should also mention the weather during my stay. In the afternoon it was around 90°F and it dropped to 50°F at night, actually not very cold. But I got cold after one night, possibly due to the nearby lake making the environment relatively wet and cold. This added to the discomfort of the stay. If you're planning to camp here, be prepared for these temperature fluctuations and the potential for damp conditions at night.

Great place to hike walk or bike with large or small groups, or solo. Well marked, many trails of all kinds. Nice little snack bar by the marina and kayak rentals are easy and convenient too!

Really nice, remote campground in a beautiful eucalyptus grove. Tons of trails to explore, great hiking 🥾. The park rangers are super helpful. It's a bit of a trek to get here, but would definitely come again.

Sites 69 to 73 has lake view. Over all a nice place with good trails around them. Not very far from city but still peaceful. Though wish the bathrooms were more spread out for easier accessibility. Parking is free for the lake below for anyone camping but you need to drive down

A wonderful campground in the heart of the city. Very hilly. Lots of challenging hikes. No swimming. AT&T worked great. Our site had full hookups. Saw wild turkeys every morning.
